PayPal now offered to Philippine residents

It wasn’t just a rumor after all.

A quick visit to PayPal confirmed that we Philippine residents could stop using the accounts of our U.S.-based relatives, and finally open a PayPal account of our own. After creating a personal & a business account (in a span of 10 minutes, mind you), there was a feeling of euphoria, quickly stifled by dread. We are all aware, after all, of PayPal horror stories.

FYI, there is no withdrawal functionality yet for Philippine residents. To quote:

PayPal accounts opened in this country or region currently cannot withdraw funds. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.

But beggars can’t be choosers, and as an online shopping addict, I am definitely one helluva beggar. So eBay, here I come.

    Philippines has one of the highest credit card fraud (I think #1 or #2). That\’s probably why it took so long for them to offer it to us. Also because of the rocky process of the money laundering bill. Politicians weren\’t too supportive of the bill (I wonder why ha ha)

    Has anyone tried using it na? Does it really work? Can I send money to my relatives in the US if they have a PayPal account?

    2checkout is an alternative to paypal if you want to sell from your website. And then you can use paypal just for buying since a lot of online stores use it.

    I dont like 2checkout because their support sucks. They charged back a lot of purchases from my account, and it takes them weeks before replying to urgent emails.
